Offshore Outsourcing for Billing and Coding Companies

When I attended the HBMA conference this year, it was just interesting to see so many companies having an India based service center. Most of them looked like mom-pop billing & coding companies. Their customer base seems less than 100 kind of physician practices.

This industry has a huge potential for consolidation. There is a lot of opportunity for a big fish with lot of money to buy out a few - standardize on the billing and coding software platform and use a offshore based call center, transaction center to deliver services faster, better and cheaper.

I got a chance to talk to a few CEOs of these companies, their vision and resources were regional. I see a few regional acquisitions happening and the consolidation bug hitting this industry.

Large offshore outsourcing companies are eyeing this market and are finding it difficult to break into. The US medical delivery system itself is so fragmented at the point of delivery, it is just difficult for any specific solution to operate on scale.
